A list of interesting listed deep tech companies
These disruptive innovation companies are currently micro-caps and under-the-radar. However, I believe they have (relatively) good potential to become big in the next 2-5 years.
In this post, I will give an overview of some listed deep tech companies that I think are really interesting. I will explain in a few sentences and a picture why I think this is the case for each one.
It will give a taste of the type of stocks that I will cover on this blog. I like focusing on microcaps. This is because they are not investable for big portfolios resulting in more potential for mispricing, which is what I am looking for as a stock-picker. I also look for companies that are disruptors or are based on intellectual property. I find these companies the most interesting.
I will probably do a deep-dive post on at least a few companies in this post.
Currently long
Graphene Manufacturing Group (MCAP around 238M CAD @3.07/share)
This company is creating energy-saving coatings, lubricants and (hopefully) next-gen batteries from graphene based on their own production method that does not require mined graphite. Their battery has better specifics than Quantumscape (MCAP 30x higher) in my opinion. This company will be the subject of my first deep dive.
Amyris (MCAP: around 1.26B USD @4.07/share )
Price/Sales around 5 while growing around 100% yearly. Leader in engineering organisms to produce (valuable) substances (synthetic biology) which has a long runway.
Goldspot Discoveries (MCAP around 101M CAD @0.74/share)
This is a mineral exploration consultancy company that built a reputation by being involved in successful projects. They are among the first to use machine learning in this niche. A good part of the market cap is covered by the value of acquisitions, stakes in exploration projects and royalties. So we get the consultancy business effectively for a fraction of the market cap, even though it already has meaningful revenue and it grows it’s revenue around 100% per year.
XTPL (MCAP around 100M PLZ @49/share)
This nanocap (MCAP 25M USD) is hidden on the Polish exchange. They work on nanoprinting (high-resolution 3D-printing). A good part of the funding comes from academic (EU) research grants, which is non-dilutive and validates the value of their IP to some extent. I think they offer hypergrowth at a reasonable price as I explain in this Twitter-post:
Watchlist
Minehub (MCAP around 57M CAD @0.92/share)
They use blockchain to automate information-exchange and transactions in the supply-chains of commodities. This could become the Mastercard of commodity supply-chains. While they have some good traction already with partners like BHP and Sumitomo, I am waiting for even more traction.
Advance Zinctek (MCAP around 131M AUD @2.15/share)
This company produces zinc oxide and aluminum oxide powders and zinc oxide dispersions for use in personal care. They have a cost advantage for producing these substances via their patented mechanochemical process.
Desert Control (MCAP around 963M NOK @23.67/share)
This company created a technology has a technology to make desert fertile. Think about the economic and ESG implications…
Mustgrow biologics (MCAP around 147M CAD @3.40/share)
They have a platform for agriculture and food-related products that combine the effectiveness of chemicals with the safety of biologics. The value of their IP is validated by partnerships with Sumitomo and Bayer.
Sidney Resources Corp (MCAP around 37M USD @ 0.163/share)
This company is creating a Thermal Fracturing Technology that could become enable more precise, cheaper and automated underground mining. If this holds up at scale, it would have huge economic implications.
